Our first session of the year defiantly blew the cobwebs away.
Our Mini Explorers enjoys exploring with ice and colour, enjoyed the mud kitchen, searching to woodland creatures, having books read to them, and playing the sand as their continuous provision activities. They also enjoyed the challenges set for this weeks session: constructing something spectacular to transport a ball and making their own woodland car with moving wheels. It was also positive to see our Mini Explorers improving their hammering skills as they used the shorthand hammers to hammer nails into the soft, damp sitting log.
Our Woodland Stewards also had access to the continuous provision activities as well as diving straight into the session challenges set for their two hour session.
They all managed to start a fire (a massive achievement), they enjoyed developing the construction from the Mini Explorers further by adding water and fine tuning the design and they worked very hard sawing wood for their car wheels.
Listening to their reflections though, their utmost favourite activity and coming back next week by their request was the pulley system. They worked well as a team to set-up a pulley system that would carry the bucket of sand up the hill. Let's see how well they do next week with less guidance and can they improve it further to make it more efficient?
